Tekst wystąpienia wygłoszonego przez Krzysztofa Szczerskiego, Stałego Przedstawiciela RP przy NZ w Nowym Jorku, dostępny jest poniżej.
Mister President, Excellencies,
Poland aligns itself with the statement (to be) delivered by the European Union.
Last week the world once again witnessed Russian unwillingness to reach a cease-fire with Ukraine, demonstrated by launching a massive attack on the regions of Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia. Despite many opportunities, Kremlin has only scaled up its attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure. Continuous efforts by the United States and Ukraine to establish a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, are met with Russia’s neo-colonial demands. Poland – as much as any other country – supports the diplomatic efforts to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine. However, we cannot help but notice that Moscow’s involvement in the US-led “shuttle diplomacy” is increasingly looking like a play to gain time to secure a better position on the battlefield.
Mister President,
Russian war of aggression and its imperialist ambitions remain the greatest threat to peace and stability in the region as well as to the UN system based on democracy, human rights and international law. Each day Russian Federation continues to openly violate the UN Charter, showing disdain to jointly agreed rules and, above all, to human life. This is the reason why we should expand the political and economic pressure on Russia.
In order to bring peace and stability, we need a deal that will be comprehensive, just and durable. A deal that does not compromise on Ukraine's ability to defend itself and its sovereign right to determine its future. We should not content with a temporary truce that Russia can first propose and then breach – as shown during the Easter holiday.
In conclusion, we continue to call for holding Russia fully accountable for violations of international law, human rights, war crimes and crime of aggression, at both state and individual levels. Supporting Ukrainian state fighting with aggressor and providing assistance based on development and humanitarian needs remain Poland’s priority.
I thank you.
