30 kwietnia 2025 r.

Mister President,

The situation in the Middle East calls for a decisive action.

Firstly, civilian protection in Gaza must be prioritized under international humanitarian law. So should be the unconditional release of Hamas-held Israeli hostages.

Restarting negotiations to restore the ceasefire in Gaza is crucial. At the same time, the parties to the conflict must take urgent steps to ease the humanitarian crisis.

We take note of the fact that for more than 50 days, all supplies have been blocked from entering Gaza by Israeli authorities, driving the worst humanitarian crisis
in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. These sufferings must end.

We call upon Israeli authorities to immediately stop attacks on humanitarian workers and infrastructure.

Mister President,

We are deeply concerned about the policy of hindering the UNRWA’s operations. All UN member states must uphold UNRWA’s mandate. Poland considers UNRWA as one of key partners in delivering humanitarian aid in the region and regularly provides financial contributions to the agency. We continue to support UNRWA also this year with a contribution of over 1 million USD.

Mister President,

For Poland it is beyond doubt that there is no way to end the conflict other than by recognizing and respecting the right of both nations to self-determination.

We expressed this by supporting the UN General Assembly resolution on May 10, 2024, to upgrade Palestine’s status at the United Nations.  Voting for the resolution was consistent with our position of recognition of the Palestinian declarationof independence in 1988.

Today, we commend Egypt and Qatar for their diplomatic efforts and urge all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue. A sustainable roadmap for a two-state solution is essential for achieving lasting peace in the region.

We thank France and Saudi Arabia for their efforts to enhance global support for the two-state solution. We intend to take part in June’s conference in New York.

Mister President,

Poland is committed to de-escalation in the Middle East and the Gulf, recognizing that support for non-state actors fuels instability. We also condemn Iran's transfer of weaponry to Russia, which poses a threat to European security.

Mister President,

Lastly, let me briefly turn to Syria. In rebuilding Syria, we must support a Syrian-led political process that respects the people's wishes and follows international law. Protecting human rights, including those of women and minorities, is critical for a stable future.

Thank you, Mr. President.
